Working for the City and contributing to the Retirement Fund for at least five years makes you eligible for a lifetime pension benefit at age 60 whether or not you continue to work for the City. In some cases an employee may have a break in service credit where they may be still employed by the City but temporally not being paid. A break in service will delay your vesting date. Some examples of a break in service credit are:

Your beneficiary
Your spouse, dependant child or parent can be your beneficiary. If you are married the Fund asks that you provide a copy of your marriage license that will be put in your pension file. If you want to name your dependant adult child or parent as beneficiary you need to submit a signed Beneficiary form. No form is necessary for a spouse or underage dependant child.
Your designee
A designee is someone other then your beneficiary that you want to name in case of your death and your beneficiary's death. The fill in designee form is provided on this web site for your convenience. Do not put your beneficiary on the designee form this form is used only in the event of your death and your beneficiary's death. You can name your estate, anyone or organization. As a vested employee you can apply for service disability benefits if you become permanently disabled while performing your duties for the City. You are also eligible to apply for non-service disability benefits if you become disabled as a result of an injury or illness not related to City employment.
