Congratulations ! You have served as a City employee and now you are ready to retire. This is a new chapter in your life but before you can get started on retirement there are a few things you need to do first.
Check your Retirement Eligibility
Call the Retirement Fund office (214-580-7700) and make sure you are eligible to retire under one of the Fund's retirement eligibility provisions:
Normal retirement —Age 60 is the normal retirement age. If you retire on or after age 60 you will receive a normal retirement benefit.
Early retirement —You may retire at age 55 and receive a full benefit if your credited service began before May 9, 1972.
Rule of 78 —You may retire on or after age 50 and receive a full benefit if your age and years of service credit added together total at least 78.
Service retirement —You may begin receiving retirement benefits when you have 30 years of service credit. If you are under age 50 when you retire, your monthly benefit will be reduced as follows:

When you are considering retirement you should:
- Schedule a counseling session with a Fund counselor member.
During your counseling session you will:
• Determine your last working day
• Select your benefit payment option
• Select your qualified beneficiary
• Provide the name and Social Security number of anyone you have named as a designee to receive a lump sum payment in the event of your death.
- Check the online retirement checklist so you know what to bring to your counseling session
- Check the online retirement check schedule so you know when you will receive your first retirement check.
- Complete the following paperwork online prior to your counseling session:
- Application for Retirement
- Form W-4P for income tax withholding
- Form W-9 request for taxpayer Identification
- Benefit Payment Option – Survivor Benefit Form

ii. Joint & ½ Survivor Option
- Public Access
- Designee Form
- Direct Deposit Authorization
Print your completed forms and bring them to your counseling session.
